About
Éditions Melmos publishes printable books, and they come in two kinds. The picture books, for preschool, put a name on the world: one picture, one word, in French, in English or in a bilingual edition, with their own set of cut-out flashcards. The workbooks, by subject and grade from preschool to sixth grade, follow a full year of the curriculum: a lesson, a worked example, exercises, the answer key.
The picture books are free
Because a picture book should not be a purchasing decision. A parent hesitating over a twenty-dollar book never tries it; a parent who prints it tries it that same evening, and comes back for another one the week after.
To download them there is no account to create and no email address to leave. You click, you get the file. Which means this site knows nothing about you. That is deliberate, and it is the accepted price of asking nothing of you.
The workbooks are sold
A picture book runs to twenty plates. A sixth-grade French workbook runs to five hundred and forty, illustrated one by one, and covers a full year of the curriculum. It is not the same object, it is not the same work, and giving it away would mean never being able to write the next one.
The picture books stay free, and they will. Buying a workbook is what makes that possible.
How they are made
The illustrations are made with the help of artificial intelligence tools, then chosen, corrected and colour-matched by hand. Every plate was proofed one by one: the ones showing a five-legged animal or an unrecognisable object were redone. A collection shares one background and one colour range, so that books from the same family recognise each other when laid side by side.
Pages are square, 200 mm across, at 300 dots per inch. That is enough to print at home on plain paper without the picture washing out.
What you may do with them
Print them as many times as you like, for your family, your classroom, your practice. Resell them, no. The details are on the rights page.
Write
A typo, a doubtful translation, a picture that does not work, an idea for a collection: write. That is how corrections happen.
